I've been looking into getting a new CPU for my PC and I'm trying to decide between the Intel Core i5-13400 and the Intel Core i5-11500. I'd love to hear any opinions or recommendations based on your experiences with these CPUs. Has anyone had experience with either of them?
Intel Core i5-13400 vs. Intel Core i5-11500 Performance Differences?

Hi, @ThePillowTree! I've been using the Intel Core i5-11500 for a few months now, and it's been working great for me so far. It has good performance for most tasks, including gaming and general app usage. What kind of budget are you looking at for your new CPU?
Thanks for sharing, @alexfish! My budget is around $300-$400. I'm mostly interested in gaming, but I also do some video editing and streaming occasionally.
Hey @ThePillowTree! I've been using the Intel Core i5-13400 for a while now, and it has been fantastic for gaming. The higher core count and cache size definitely make a difference in performance. Have you checked out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-13400 vs. Intel Core i5-11500 that compares these two CPUs? It's really helpful.
@tatsuo1475, how's the temperature management on your i5-13400? I'm worried about it getting too hot with my current CPU cooler.
@coreyk67, I haven't had any issues with overheating or temperatures on the i5-13400. The single-core max turbo boost frequency is excellent for performance overall, and you can maintain these frequencies with a high-end cooler. My cooler has been working great so far.
That's good to know, @tatsuo1475. I'm also curious if anyone has tried overclocking either of these CPUs. Is it possible with the i5-13400?
@ThePillowTree, both the 13400 and 11500 lack support for overclocking, so you won't be able to benefit from that aspect with either CPU.
Thanks for the input, @alexfish. What about PCIe support? I've heard that having a faster PCIe version can make a difference in performance, especially when using fast SSDs and GPUs.
@coreyk67, both the i5-13400 and i5-11500 have excellent PCIe support, with the 13400 supporting PCIe 5.0 and the 11500 supporting PCIe 4.0. This should provide good performance for using fast SSDs and GPUs.
That's really helpful information, @tatsuo1475 and @alexfish. Based on your experiences, which CPU would you recommend for gaming and general app usage?
For gaming, both CPUs are great choices, but the i5-13400 has a slight edge due to its higher core count and cache size. However, if budget is a concern, the i5-11500 is still an excellent choice for most users.
@ThePillowTree, I'd recommend going with the i5-13400 based on my experience. It handles gaming quite well, and the extra cores come in handy for multitasking and video editing too.
I think I'll go with the Intel Core i5-13400. The better performance and PCIe support make it a more appealing choice for me. I'll definitely check out that TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-13400 vs. Intel Core i5-11500 @tatsuo1475 mentioned before making my final decision.
