Hey, I've been looking into getting a new CPU for gaming and came across the Intel Core i5-12400F and i5-11600. Can anyone share their experience with these? I'm especially curious about performance in games.
Intel Core i5-12400F vs. i5-11600 for Gaming?

I've been using the i5-11600 for a while now, and it's served me well! It handles most games at high settings without any issues. The only time I experienced some stutter was during some of the more demanding titles. Still, a better GPU can help alleviate that issue.
The i5-12400F is on my wishlist. I've read in a TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-12400F vs. Intel Core i5-11600 that it has better DDR support and PCIe 5.0 compatibility compared to the i5-11600, which could potentially lead to better gaming performance.
Oh yeah, that's right! I remember reading that too. The i5-12400F supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 4800 MHz, while the i5-11600 supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz. That's quite a difference!
Interesting! So it looks like the i5-12400F might be better for future-proofing my build in terms of memory and storage performance. But how about general app performance? Any thoughts?
In general apps, both CPUs should perform similarly well. The main difference between them is that the i5-12400F has a higher base frequency and max turbo boost frequency, which could translate to better single-threaded performance.
That makes sense. I guess it depends on my specific needs and budget. If I'm mainly focusing on gaming and don't plan to upgrade for a while, the i5-12400F seems like a solid choice.
Yeah, but don't forget about overclocking capabilities! The i5-11600 doesn't have support for overclocking, while the i5-12400F does. That could be a factor if you're looking to push your CPU to its limits.
Good point. Overclocking might be something I'd like to try in the future. Thanks everyone for the input!
