Intel Core i5-11400F vs. i7-9700F Multi-Threading Performance?

Started by MadameCuriosity on May 27, 2024

I'm in the process of building a new computer and I'm trying to decide between the Intel Core i5-11400F and the Intel Core i7-9700F for multi-threading performance. Can anyone share their thoughts or experiences with these processors? Any advice would be great!

Hi @MadameCuriosity! I've used both of those CPUs, and they have their pros and cons. The i5-11400F has a Thread Count of 12 with 6 cores, while the i7-9700F has a Thread Count of 8 and 8 cores. So in terms of multi-threading performance, the i7-9700F is better for handling more parallel tasks. Have you checked out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-11400F vs. Intel Core i7-9700F comparing these two CPUs? It might give you some insights that could help with your decision.

Thank you, @obvalternate, for sharing your experience! I didn't realize the i7-9700F had more cores and threads. That's pretty interesting. I'm still a bit torn because I have a small desk, so space might be an issue for the 9700F. Have you faced any issues with cable management or space constraints?

You're welcome, @MadameCuriosity! Yeah, that's something to consider. I didn't have too much trouble with space and cable management, but it might take some rearranging if you go for the i7-9700F. As for my personal experience, I found that the higher number of cores on the 9700F made a difference in performance when running resource-intensive applications.

I've used both the i5-11400F and i7-9700F, and I can vouch for @obvalternate's experience. The i7-9700F is definitely better at handling multiple tasks simultaneously due to its higher core count. However, the i5-11400F still offers good performance overall. It really depends on your specific needs and whether you prioritize multi-threading capabilities or not.

Thanks for sharing your experience too, @PicardToBridge. I'm starting to lean towards the i7-9700F based on these responses. However, my budget is quite tight, so I'm worried about the price difference between the two CPUs. Any suggestions on finding a good deal or should I just go with the one that offers better performance?

@MadameCuriosity, you're right to consider your budget! Both CPUs are great options, but if you can stretch a little bit more, the i7-9700F would be an excellent choice for multi-threading. However, if you're on a tight budget, the i5-11400F should still provide decent performance. It's all about finding the right balance between performance and cost. Keep your eyes out for deals and sales to save some money.

Thank you everyone for your input! I appreciate the advice. I think I'll keep looking around for a good deal on the i7-9700F, but if it takes too long or gets too expensive, I'll go with the i5-11400F as @Danny0402 suggested. Thanks again!

You're welcome, @MadameCuriosity! Just remember that whichever CPU you choose, it's important to ensure it has good return policies in case anything goes wrong. Happy building!
