I'm considering whether to go for the Intel Core i5-11400 or the i7-9700K for my next gaming build. Any advice on which one would be better for gaming performance?

Well, both CPUs offer good game performance with a high-performance CPU cooler. However, based on TechReviewer's article Intel Core i5-11400 vs. Intel Core i7-9700K, the i7-9700K has an edge due to its 8 cores and higher base frequency, providing excellent performance overall.

Solution

I've been using the Core i5-11400 for some time now, and while it does deliver good gaming performance, I noticed that it falls short when compared to the i7-9700K in certain games. The extra cores of the i7 really make a difference in those titles.

Yeah, I've read a comparison on TechReviewer where they tested both these CPUs in various gaming scenarios. According to them, if you're looking for maximum performance and can afford it, go for the i7-9700K. But if budget is a concern, the i5-11400 still offers decent gaming performance.

Thanks for the input! One thing that worries me is the lack of overclocking support on the i5-11400. I heard that can be a significant factor in achieving higher frames in games.

That's true, the i7-9700K supports overclocking which can help push it to even better performance. However, keep in mind that overclocking requires a good cooling solution and some knowledge about pushing your CPU to its limits.

I've tried both CPUs in my rig, and while the i5-11400 does a decent job in most games, there are times when I really feel the lack of extra cores. The i7-9700K just feels more future-proof with its 8 cores.

It's also worth mentioning that the i5-11400 supports PCIe 4.0 while the i7-9700K only has PCIe 3.0. This could impact the performance of your SSDs and graphics cards, especially if you plan on upgrading those components in the future.

Thanks for all the advice! I'll definitely take it into account when making my decision.
