I recently read a TechReviewer article about these two CPUs and found it quite helpful. The article can be found at Intel Core i5-10400 vs. Intel Core i5-9400. It discusses some key differences between the i5-9400 and i5-10400 that might help with your decision.

I recently upgraded to the i5-9400 for my video editing work and it's been great so far. The performance improvements are noticeable compared to my old CPU.

Yeah, I've been using the i5-10400 for a few months now and it seems like a solid choice for video editing. However, I did have to invest in a better cooling solution to handle the higher turbo boost frequency.

That's interesting! So, @Sampledoubt, how does the i5-9400 compare to the i5-10400 in terms of video editing performance? Are there any significant differences?

Solution

Thanks for sharing, @stefanezer! So based on the article, the i5-10400 has a higher single-core max turbo boost frequency (4.30 GHz) compared to the i5-9400's 4.10 GHz, which could be beneficial for video editing tasks.

Yeah, that's right. The TechReviewer article also mentioned that the i5-10400 has a larger L3 cache capacity (12 MB) than the i5-9400 (9 MB), which can provide better multitasking capabilities and improved performance with professional tools.

Thanks for the insights! So, would you guys recommend the i5-10400 or i5-9400 for video editing? I'm leaning towards the i5-10400 due to its higher turbo boost frequency and larger cache, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

As someone who's been using the i5-10400 for a while, I can say that it does offer better performance in video editing tasks. However, @Sampledoubt also had a good experience with the i5-9400. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preferences and specific use cases.

I appreciate your input. I'll do some more research and think about which CPU would be best for my needs. Hopefully, I can get started on my video editing project soon!

Thanks, @Misc20156! Good luck with your decision and your upcoming project!
