Intel Core i3-12100 vs Intel Core i5-10400 for Video Editing?

Started by Wakazashi on June 22, 2024

I've been looking at the Intel Core i3-12100 and the Core i5-10400 for a potential video editing machine. Can you guys give me some advice on which one would be better? The more I read, the more confused I get!

Hey @Wakazashi, both of these CPUs are great options! Have you seen the TechReviewer article about them? Check it out here Intel Core i3-12100 vs. Intel Core i5-10400.

Solution

Thanks for the link, @CowboysCrewLove. So based on the article, the i5-10400 has more cores and a higher turbo frequency, which could potentially make it better for video editing.

That's really helpful, @lunalikeslasagna! I was also wondering about their performance in gaming. Any thoughts?

Well, @Wakazashi, the i5-10400 has slightly worse single-core performance compared to the i3-12100 but makes up for it with better multi-threaded performance.

I've been using the i3-12100 in my video editing projects and it's working fine. The speed is good enough for my needs. It's not that I'm a professional editor or anything, but for hobbyist work, it's doing just fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience, @simplygod. So, would you recommend the i3-12100 for hobbyists like yourself?

Yes, definitely. For someone who doesn't need the extra power of the i5-10400, the i3-12100 is more than enough.

That's good to know! But what about @Wakazashi's initial question? Which one would be better for video editing?

Honestly, it depends on your budget and how much you need that extra power. If you can afford the i5-10400, it might be worth it for video editing.

I see. Thanks everyone for sharing their knowledge! I think I'll read more about these CPUs and maybe do some tests with them to see which one suits my needs best. It's a tough decision!

Yeah, I'll probably do the same. Thanks for all the advice!
