Intel Core i3-10100 vs. 10100F - Better for Gaming?

Started by MarkOMara on July 10, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new CPU and came across these two models from Intel. Can anyone give me some advice on which one is better for gaming?

@Laststraw2017 is right about the differences between these two CPUs. Also, there's a TechReviewer article discussing their comparison in detail which might be helpful to you. You can check it out at Intel Core i3-10100F vs. Intel Core i3-10100.

Hi @MarkOMara, both the Core i3-10100F and Core i3-10100 have similar core types, core counts, frequencies, and cache capacities. However, the 10100F lacks support for overclocking and PCIe 4.0 which can limit performance for certain applications, especially gaming.

Solution

Thanks for the information, guys. So, what would be better for gaming? The i3-10100F or 10100?

I'd say the i3-10100 is a safer bet if you're mainly planning to use it for gaming. The lack of overclocking support in the 10100F could limit its potential.

I have both, and I can tell you that they perform quite similarly in most games. However, I'd say that the i3-10100 has a slight edge when it comes to gaming performance due to its better support for overclocking and PCIe.

Interesting! So if I don't plan on overclocking, would the 10100F be enough?

Yeah, it should be. If you're not planning on overclocking, you can still get decent gaming performance from the i3-10100F. Just make sure to use a high-performance CPU cooler to maintain those frequencies.

True. But if you ever decide to upgrade or change your mind about overclocking in the future, the 10100 would give you more options.

That's good to know! Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll go with the i3-10100 then.

No problem, @MarkOMara. I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice!

Same here. Good luck with your new CPU!
