Ideal Wattage for Intel Core i9-12900KS Gaming PC?

Started by stinglacson on June 07, 2024

I recently built a computer with an Intel Core i9-12900KS CPU and I'm looking to optimize the wattage of my power supply unit (PSU). Can anyone recommend an ideal wattage range for my gaming PC? I've heard different opinions, so I'd appreciate some expert advice.

Hey @stinglacson, a friend of mine just built a system with the same CPU and used a 1000W PSU. It seems to be working well for him. Have you seen the TechReviewer article about power supplies for Intel's Core i9-12900KS? The link is here: Choosing the Best Power Supply for Intel's Core i9-12900KS CPU.

Solution

@stinglacson I've been using an i9-12900KS with a 1200W PSU and it's been running fine, but the wattage you need depends on your GPU and other components too. Make sure you check out their power consumption.

Yeah, I agree with @suratmommy. Also, don't forget to add some headroom for overclocking or future upgrades. My recommendation would be around 1300-1500W just to be safe.

@stinglacson When I built my system with the i9-12900KS, I went with a 1100W PSU and it's been working great so far. Remember, it also depends on the efficiency of the PSU. A higher efficiency rating can save you money in the long run and reduce noise levels.

@Moose1956 Thanks for the advice! The 1100W PSU seems like a good option. I'll definitely check out that TechReviewer article @Mythonaut9 mentioned to learn more about power supplies.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that you should consider the warranty and return policy of the PSU when making your decision. Some companies offer generous warranties, which can give you peace of mind in case anything goes wrong.

@EskeetmoJoe That's a great point! I'll definitely keep that in mind while shopping for a PSU. Thanks everyone for your input!

@stinglacson If you have any more questions or need assistance, feel free to ask! Good luck with your build!

@stinglacson Right on! And remember to monitor your system's power usage closely during the initial setup phase. It can help you make adjustments and ensure stability.

@stinglacson Absolutely! Happy building, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need any more advice!

@stinglacson Good luck with your new gaming PC! And remember that efficiency is key when it comes to power supplies.

@stinglacson Good luck, and have fun gaming!
