I'm building a new PC and I need some advice on the ideal voltage range for my AMD Ryzen 7 5700X. I've heard different things and would love to know what you all think.
Ideal Voltage Range for AMD Ryzen 7 5700X?
Started by lizardmamba on July 11, 2024
Hi @lizardmamba! The ideal voltage range for an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X is between 750 and 1650 watts, as it has a peak power consumption of 88 watts. It's essential to ensure that the power supply unit (PSU) provides sufficient wattage to support all components in the system.
To add to what @cherrypopover said, there's a great TechReviewer article discussing this topic in detail. The link is Choosing the Best Power Supply for AMD's Ryzen 7 5700X CPU. You might find it helpful for your build!
Thanks for the info, @cherrypopover and @SouperFoe! I had no idea about the 88 watts peak power consumption. I'll definitely check out that article you mentioned, @SouperFoe.
Just wanted to share my experience with power supplies. When I built my PC a couple of years ago, I didn't pay much attention to the efficiency of my PSU and it ended up causing some heating issues. A higher efficiency rating can make a big difference!
That's a good point, @wanderingdove. Efficiency is definitely something I'll be considering now! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Yeah, I agree with @wanderingdove. I've been using an 80 PLUS Gold PSU for my current build and it's running really smoothly without any overheating issues. It's worth the extra investment in the long run.
Just a quick question - how do you decide on the wattage of your power supply? Should we always go with the maximum requirement or is there room for some flexibility?
Hi @wakeupsir, it's good that you're thinking about this. Generally, it's best to choose a PSU with a little extra headroom. I usually add an additional 100-150 watts buffer to my estimated total wattage. This can help accommodate future upgrades or overclocking.
Thanks for all the advice everyone! This is really helpful. I think I'll go for an 80 PLUS Gold PSU and add that extra buffer, just like @SouperFoe suggested. That should cover me well.
Sounds like a plan, @lizardmamba! Good luck with your build. Don't forget to check out the TechReviewer article Choosing the Best Power Supply for AMD's Ryzen 7 5700X CPU I mentioned earlier. It has some great insights on choosing the best power supply for the Ryzen 7 5700X CPU.
Will do, @cherrypopover! Thanks again for all the help and advice. I'm excited to start my build now.
