i9-9900K or i7-9700 for Gaming?

Started by Paradigm-in on July 09, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new CPU for gaming, and I'm torn between the Intel Core i9-9900K and the Core i7-9700. Any advice on which one to choose?

If you're interested in general app performance, check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-9900K vs. Intel Core i7-9700. It discusses how both CPUs provide good general app performance, with a high-performance cooler. The most important factor for general apps is the single-core max turbo boost frequency.

Hi @Paradigm-in, I've been using the i9-9900K for a while now, and it's amazing! It has more cores and higher single-core turbo frequencies, which makes it great for gaming.

Yeah, I'm not a gamer but I do lots of video editing. For me, the i7-9700 is better because it doesn't have as many cores as the i9-9900K, so it's more power-efficient in my case.

Hey guys, what about performance for general apps? I'm not much into gaming but need a good CPU for running office software and browsing the internet.

Solution

That's super helpful, @modulos04. So, it seems like the i9-9900K might be better for gaming due to its higher single-core frequencies and more cores. But I don't know if those extra features are worth the extra cost?

Well, @Paradigm-in, you should also consider your budget and what other components you plan to use with the CPU. If you can afford it and have a compatible cooler, the i9-9900K could offer better performance for gaming.

Thanks for the input! I think I'll do some more research and maybe build a list of pros and cons for both CPUs. That way, I can make a more informed decision based on my specific needs.

Good idea, @MesmerizingHS. I'll probably do the same thing. Thanks everyone for your insights!

No problem, @Paradigm-in! Good luck with your research!
