I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my computer with an Intel Core i5-9400T CPU. Can anyone recommend the best type of RAM to get? Should I go for DDR4 or DDR5?

Compatibility is crucial. You should check the specifications of your CPU and motherboard to ensure they support the type of RAM you plan to install. The Best RAM for the Intel Core i5-9400T CPU TechReviewer article @makaveliLA mentioned earlier provides more details on this.

Based on TechReviewer's article, your Best RAM for the Intel Core i5-9400T CPU i5-9400T only supports DDR4 memory. So you'll need to stick with that for now.

I'm currently using 8 GB of RAM and sometimes run into issues with multitasking, especially while gaming or working on large projects. What would be the best option in terms of capacity?

In terms of capacity, it's recommended to go at least for 16 GB if you often work with large files or multiple applications simultaneously. I've been using Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM and have had a great experience.

Thanks for the recommendations! How does the speed of the RAM affect performance?

RAM speed can impact your computer's overall performance, especially when multitasking or running resource-intensive applications. Higher speeds can lead to smoother performance in games and quicker load times for applications.

What about compatibility with my CPU and motherboard? Will I have any issues with that?

Solution

Do you think it's worth upgrading from DDR4 to DDR5, even though my CPU only supports DDR4?

I'd advise against upgrading to DDR5 just yet if your CPU only supports DDR4. It might be more cost-effective and efficient to stick with DDR4 for now. However, when the time comes to upgrade your CPU or motherboard, consider switching to DDR5 then.

Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to check compatibility before buying RAM. One last question: should I go for stock-speed RAM or overclocked RAM?

It really depends on your needs and budget. Stock-speed RAM is generally more affordable and energy-efficient, while overclocked RAM offers higher performance at a potentially higher cost and power consumption. If you don't plan to overclock, stock-speed RAM should suffice.

Any other tips or recommendations before I make my decision?

Just remember that compatibility is key. Make sure the RAM you choose is compatible with your CPU and motherboard. Also, consider the type of tasks you'll be running on your computer when choosing RAM speed and capacity.

Thanks for all the help! I'll keep these factors in mind while shopping for new RAM.
