i3-12100F vs. i3-10100 Gaming Performance

Started by pinsent88 on May 10, 2024

I recently bought an Intel Core i3-12100F CPU and I'm wondering how it compares to the older i3-10100 for gaming performance. Any advice would be appreciated.

Speaking of which, I recently read a TechReviewer article comparing these two CPUs. It was really insightful. The link is Intel Core i3-12100F vs. Intel Core i3-10100. You should check it out if you want to get more details.

Both CPUs have four cores, eight threads, and a 4.30 GHz max turbo frequency, which makes them quite similar in terms of core types and counts. The main differences lie in their base frequencies and memory support. The i3-12100F has a faster base frequency of 3.30 GHz compared to the i3-10100's 3.60 GHz. Additionally, the i3-12100F supports DDR5 with a maximum stock speed of 4800 MHz and PCIe 5.0, while the i3-10100 supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 2666 MHz and PCIe 3.0.

That's interesting! So would you say that the i3-12100F is overall better for gaming?

It really depends on what aspects of gaming are most important to you. The faster base frequency, better memory support, and more advanced PCIe technology of the i3-12100F can potentially lead to better performance in some games. However, the i3-10100's higher base frequency might give it an edge in certain situations.

Solution

Thanks for sharing the link! So based on your experience and the TechReviewer article, would you recommend getting the i3-12100F or sticking with the i3-10100?

I'd say that if you're looking for better potential for performance improvements due to its faster base frequency, better memory support, and more advanced PCIe technology, then the i3-12100F might be a better choice. But if you're working with limited desk space or prioritize color accuracy over higher refresh rates, the i3-10100 could be more suitable.

That makes sense. I'll read the TechReviewer article you shared and think it through some more. Thanks for your help!
