I was wondering if anyone has experience with the HDMI ports on the Samsung Q60C 85"? My friend just bought this TV and I wanted to know if it's going to meet his needs.

@pandanyc1, I'm also using the Samsung Q60C 85". The TechReviewer article HDMI Capabilities of the Samsung 85" Q60C TV gives an overview of the HDMI capabilities of this TV model. It states that it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 or eARC but has three HDMI 2.0 ports and a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

I've had my Samsung Q60C 85" for a few months now. In my opinion, it has more than enough HDMI ports to handle most of the devices you would connect to it. There are three HDMI 2.0 ports which should be sufficient for a gaming console, streaming device, and soundbar if needed.

Solution

Thanks for the info! That's helpful to know. My friend mainly uses his TV for watching movies and occasional gaming, so I think he should be fine with those specs.

@dcerisano, you mentioned that the TV doesn't support HDMI 2.1 or eARC. Can you explain a bit more about what these features do? And are there any downsides to not having them?

Sure! HDMI 2.1 supports higher resolutions like 8K and 10K, faster refresh rates for other resolutions, and additional features like Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Dynamic HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), Quick Media Switching (QMS), and Quick Frame Transport (QFT). However, not all of these features might be necessary for everyday use. As for downsides, if you're planning on using 8K content or want the fastest possible refresh rates for gaming, then not having HDMI 2.1 could be a drawback.

@Rob-A-Tron, I can vouch for @dcerisano's explanation! I recently upgraded to an HDMI 2.1 TV and noticed a significant difference in my gaming experience. The faster refresh rate and support for VRR made playing competitive games much smoother. If your friend doesn't plan on using high-end features or content, the Samsung Q60C 85" should be more than sufficient.

Thanks everyone for the insights! My friend will definitely appreciate this information. He's not really into high-end gaming or 8K content, so it seems like the Samsung Q60C 85" is a good fit for his needs.
