I'm in the market for a new motherboard to pair with my recently purchased AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G CPU. Can anyone recommend the best one out there? I've heard that it's important to find one with an AM4 socket and a compatible chipset, but not sure what else I should be looking for.

Hey @Allsvinn! Welcome to the community! For your Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G CPU, you'll definitely need a motherboard with an AM4 socket. The X470 and B450 chipsets are both recommended. I've used the GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO Wi-Fi for my setup and it works great! It supports up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory, has two NVMe M.2 slots at PCIe 3.0 speeds, offers a 1 Gbps Ethernet port, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 slots with 10 Gbps USB speeds. Thanks for the suggestion @lexalbrecht! I'm going to check that article you mentioned. The Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO Wi-Fi seems like a great option, but I need some advice on other factors I should consider when choosing my motherboard, such as video output port, storage, connectivity (USB & Audio), form factor, and PCIe expansion slots.

That's right @KaffeeNoire! But I was also wondering about other factors like video output port, storage, connectivity (USB & Audio), form factor, and PCIe expansion slots. Any advice would be helpful!
Yeah, you should definitely take those factors into account when choosing your motherboard. For the video output port, make sure it has a compatible HDMI or DisplayPort to use the integrated graphics of your Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G. In terms of storage, look for M.2 slots and SATA ports that support NVMe SSDs. As for connectivity, USB ports with 3.2 Gen 2 speeds are great for fast data transfers, and having a good audio solution on the motherboard is always nice. The form factor should match your computer case, and PCIe expansion slots can be important if you plan to use multiple GPUs.
Thanks @lexalbrecht! That's really helpful advice. I appreciate it. Now that you've mentioned it, I think I might need some help understanding the difference between M.2 slots and SATA ports. Can anyone explain?
Sure @Allsvinn! M.2 and SATA are both types of storage interfaces for solid-state drives (SSDs). M.2 is a newer interface that offers faster data transfer speeds compared to SATA. It also has a smaller form factor, which can be beneficial in saving space inside your computer case.
That makes sense @slipstream55! So, if I were to go with an SSD for my Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G setup, should I choose an M.2 drive or a traditional SATA drive?
It really depends on your needs and budget, but generally speaking, an M.2 SSD will offer better performance. However, they can be more expensive than SATA drives with the same capacity. If you're looking to future-proof your build and want the fastest possible storage, go for an M.2 drive. But if cost is a concern, a traditional SATA drive can still provide good performance at a lower price.
Thanks for the advice @KaffeeNoire! I think I'll look into getting an M.2 SSD for my Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G setup. Any recommendations on which brand or model to go with?
You're welcome @Allsvinn! Some popular and reliable brands for M.2 SSDs include Samsung, Western Digital, and Crucial. For a high-performance drive, you might want to check out the Samsung 970 EVO or the WD Black SN750. These drives offer fast read/
Great! Thanks @slipstream55 for the recommendations. I'll look into those options. By the way, do you have any recommendations on which form factor of motherboard would be best suited for my Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G setup? I've heard that ATX is the most common, but what about Mini-ITX and MicroATX?
That's correct @Allsvinn! ATX is indeed the most common form factor, and it should work well with your Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G. However, if you're looking to build a smaller PC or want to save space in your computer case, Mini-ITX and MicroATX are also good options. Just make sure your chosen form factor is compatible with your computer case.
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I think I have a better understanding of what to look for in a motherboard for my Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G setup. I'll definitely check out those recommendations and see if they're available locally or online.
