I'm currently trying to choose between the Dell Alienware AW2720HF and LG 27GL850-B monitors for gaming, and I could use some advice. Has anyone here used either of these two monitors? Any suggestions would be helpful!

Hey @BlackRiverMead, I've been using the LG 27GL850-B for a while now, and it's been great! The higher resolution definitely makes a difference in gaming and overall productivity. As for response time, mine is about 5ms which isn't bad but could be better. Have you checked out this TechReviewer article Dell 27" Alienware AW2720HF vs. LG 27" 27GL850-B? It might help with your decision making.

Thanks @quantumperson! I did read that article before, and it was quite helpful. I'm more of a casual gamer, so the resolution difference doesn't bother me as much. But I'm still confused about the refresh rate. How does it affect gaming?

Hey @Charichuchi, a monitor's refresh rate is essentially how many times per second it updates the screen image. A higher refresh rate means smoother motion and less motion blur, which is great for gaming. The Dell Alienware AW2720HF has a 240Hz refresh rate while the LG 27GL850-B has a 144Hz one. In general, a higher refresh rate will give you a better gaming experience.

Thanks @CaptainLoneStarr and @quantumperson. So if I understand correctly, the Dell Alienware AW2720HF would be a better choice for me due to its higher refresh rate?

Yeah, that's correct. The Dell Alienware AW2720HF is known for its 240Hz refresh rate which can make a huge difference in fast-paced games. But remember that it also has a lower resolution than the LG 27GL850-B. If you're looking for better visuals and color accuracy, then the LG might be a better choice.

True, it all comes down to personal preference. I personally love my LG 27GL850-B because of its higher resolution and color accuracy. But if you prioritize refresh rate over those features, go for the Dell Alienware AW2720HF.

These suggestions really help me understand what's more important in choosing a gaming monitor. I think I'll try both at a store before making my final decision. Appreciate your input!

No problem, @BlackRiverMead. Good luck with your search! And remember to read up on other specs like response time and display panel type as well.

Absolutely! Happy hunting for the perfect monitor!

Cheers, @Charichuchi! Hopefully, you find one that suits your needs.

Thanks, guys! I'll definitely keep all these factors in mind. Have a great day!
