I'm in the market for a new monitor and can't decide between the Dell 34" S3422DW and the Dell 34.14" P3421W. Can anyone provide some insight on which one is better suited for gaming? I've heard that the refresh rate plays a big role in gaming performance, so any advice would be appreciated!

I recently bought the Dell 34" S3422DW and have been using it for a couple of months now. The 100 Hz refresh rate makes a huge difference in gaming, especially during fast-paced matches. Also, the resolution is great for an immersive experience. Check out this TechReviewer article Dell 34" S3422DW vs. Dell 34.14" P3421W for more information.

Solution

Thanks for sharing your experience, @MathRamp. I'm also curious about the Dell P3421W's performance. Does anyone have any feedback on that monitor?

I've been using the Dell 34.14" P3421W for a few weeks now and can say that it's an excellent monitor. The 3440x1440 resolution is fantastic, but the 60 Hz refresh rate might not be ideal for fast-paced games. However, I find that the color accuracy is better on this one. If you're looking for a monitor with a higher refresh rate, go for the S3422DW.

Thanks for the input, @jimbojim1997. So it sounds like if I want a smooth gaming experience, the Dell 34" S3422DW with its higher refresh rate might be the better choice. What about response time? How does that factor into gaming performance?

The response time is important too! In my experience, a lower response time leads to smoother images and less ghosting. The Dell 34" S3422DW has a 4 ms response time, while the P3421W has a 5 ms response time. So if you want to avoid any potential lag or ghosting issues during gaming, I'd recommend going with the S3422DW.

That makes sense. Thanks for your insights, @andrewmcdonough. The higher refresh rate and better response time on the Dell 34" S3422DW definitely seem appealing for gaming. But how does the color accuracy compare between the two?

Color accuracy is another aspect to consider. The P3421W has a 99% SRGB color capability, which is good, while the S3422DW offers a 90% DCI-P3 color capability. So if you're primarily focused on color accuracy for games like Cyberpunk 2077, the P3421W might be the better choice. However, if you prioritize high refresh rates and smooth gaming experiences, go with the S3422DW.

Great information, everyone! I appreciate your suggestions. It seems that the Dell 34" S3422DW is a solid choice for gaming due to its higher refresh rate and response time. However, I'm also interested in color accuracy. Should I expect any compromise in color accuracy with the S3422DW compared to the P3421W?

@emperorscratchy, you might have to make some trade-offs depending on your priorities. The S3422DW has a lower color capability than the P3421W, so if color accuracy is crucial for you, you may want to consider the P3421W. But remember, both monitors offer excellent resolutions that are great for gaming.

Thanks for all the helpful advice! I think I'll go with the Dell 34" S3422DW as it seems more suited to my needs. The higher refresh rate and response time should provide a smoother gaming experience, which is important to me. @jimbojim1997, could you please share your setup and how well the P3421W works for you in terms of gaming?

Sure thing, @CowboysCrewLove. I've been quite satisfied with the Dell 34.14" P3421W for gaming. While the 60 Hz refresh rate might not be as smooth as the S3422DW's, the color accuracy is impressive. I play a variety of games, from fast-paced shooters to more visually demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077, and the P3421W holds up well. The smaller size also fits better on my desk.

That's good to know, @jimbojim1997. Thanks for sharing your experience. So it seems that both monitors have their own strengths and weaknesses. I'll carefully consider my priorities before making a decision. Appreciate all the input!
