Better Overclocking CPU: i9-9900 or i7-9700?

Which one should I get for better overclocking potential, the Intel Core i9-9900 or the Intel Core i7-9700? I'm looking to build a PC for gaming and content creation.

The Intel Core i9-9900 vs. Intel Core i7-9700 mentions that both CPUs lack support for overclocking, so it seems like neither one has an advantage in that area. In terms of core types, core counts, frequencies, and cache capacities, the differences between the two might not be as significant for gaming and content creation.

For overclocking potential, the Intel Core i9-9900 vs. Intel Core i7-9700 suggests that the i9-9900 has a higher base frequency of 3.10 GHz and a single-core max turbo boost frequency of 5.00 GHz, which makes it more suitable for performance overall compared to the i7-9700.

That's interesting! But what about the Core i9-9900's lack of support for overclocking? Could that be a problem for my gaming and content creation needs?

Solution

I'm leaning towards the i9-9900 because of its higher single-core max turbo boost frequency, but I'm also concerned about the lack of overclocking support. Can anyone share their experiences with these CPUs in terms of performance?

I have an i7-9700 and it's been working great for me so far. The lack of overclocking support isn't a problem at all, as I haven't felt the need to push my CPU beyond its base frequencies. For gaming and content creation, I've had no issues with performance.

Thanks for sharing your experience, @no-love-lost. It's good to know that you haven't faced any problems with the i7-9700. However, I'm still wondering if the higher base frequency of the i9-9900 would make a significant difference in my workflow?

That's a fair question, @NexusNinjaEX. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and your specific needs. Both CPUs are capable of delivering good performance for gaming and content creation, but the i9-9900 might edge out the i7-9700 in some scenarios due to its higher base frequency.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I appreciate it. I think I'll go with the i9-9900, as I'm more concerned about having a CPU that can handle high frequencies for content creation. But I'll definitely keep the lack of overclocking support in mind and make sure to use my CPU within its limits.

That sounds like a good plan, @ridders103. Good luck with your new build! If you ever have any questions or need advice, feel free to ask.
