Best PSU for Ryzen 5 3600?

Started by ChemistDude on June 12, 2024

I've recently built a new PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and I'm looking for recommendations on the best power supply unit (PSU) to pair it with. Any suggestions would help!

Hi @ChemistDude, I recently upgraded my rig with a Ryzen 5 3600 as well, so I can share my experience! For your CPU, you'll need a PSU that supports at least 88 watts for the PPT limit. Based on my research and usage, I recommend either a 750-1650 watt Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series or a 550 watt Corsair SF Power Supply. Solution

Thanks for the suggestions, @lunagrey22! The Ryzen 5 3600's PPT limit is something I wasn't aware of. Both PSU options you mentioned sound great. Do you have any personal experience with either of them?

Hey @ChemistDude, I've used both of those PSUs and they're really good. I'd go for the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series if you want a higher wattage range. It's efficient and reliable, plus it has an 80 PLUS Gold certification.

Yeah, I've been using a Corsair SF Power Supply for a while now, and it works perfectly fine for my mid-tier components. If budget is a concern, this might be the better option.

That's really helpful, @Dajosada and @riveroaken! It sounds like both options are reliable and efficient. I'll probably go with the Corsair SF Power Supply since it fits within my budget. Thanks for your advice!

Great choice, @ChemistDude! Just remember to always check compatibility with your other components before making a final decision. And don't forget to add a 100-150 watt buffer if you plan on overclocking or upgrading in the future.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I'll definitely keep that in mind, @lunagrey22. Looking forward to putting my new PSU to good use!

Have fun building your rig, @ChemistDude! If you have any questions later on, feel free to ask.

Good luck with your setup, @ChemistDude! Let us know how it goes!
