Best PSU for RTX 2060 Build?

Started by Pavlador on June 04, 2024

I'm building a new computer and need some advice on picking the best power supply unit (PSU) for an RTX 2060 build. Can anyone recommend any good PSUs?

The TechReviewer article Choosing the Best PSU for Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2060 GPU provides some good recommendations for choosing a PSU for your RTX 2060 build. You should consider factors like power output, efficiency, and connectors when picking one. Modular cables are also a plus because they help with cable management.

For an RTX 2060 build, you should look for a PSU with wattage between 600W to 700W. I'm using a 650W Corsair CX450 and it's working fine. But if you want something more reliable, you can check out the EVGA SuperNOVA G5 series.

Thanks for the suggestions! @@smartmilk. What about compatibility with my computer case? Should I worry about that?

It's always a good idea to check the PSU compatibility with your case before purchasing one. Most standard-sized desktop PC builds use an ATX power supply, but some smaller cases may require a different form factor.

I've been using a HX750 for my RTX 2060 build, and it's been working great! It has plenty of wattage, and the modular cables make cable management much easier. Just make sure to pick one with an 80 PLUS certification for better efficiency.

That sounds like a good option! Thanks for sharing your experience, @@LionLambert. I'll definitely keep that in mind when picking my PSU.

One more thing to consider is adding a 100-150W buffer to your expected usage for some flexibility. This will allow you to add more drives, fans, or add-in cards in the future without stressing your PSU.

Good point, @@smartmilk. Overclocking your components can also require extra power, so keep that in mind as well.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I have a better idea of what to look for now. I'll definitely check out those recommendations and find the best PSU for my RTX 2060 build.
