I'm planning to build a new PC and need some help choosing the best power supply unit (PSU) for an Intel Core i5-12600 CPU. Has anyone had experience with any particular PSU brands or models that they would recommend? Also, how important is efficiency when selecting a PSU?
Best PSU for Intel Core i5-12600?

I recently built my system around the i5-12600 and went with the Corsair SF750. It's a 750W unit but has an impressive modular design and high efficiency (80 PLUS Platinum). The power delivery is stable and it hasn't caused any issues so far.
@cambrose89, I'd recommend checking out the TechReviewer article Choosing the Best Power Supply for Intel's Core i5-12600 CPU for detailed insights on selecting the best PSU for your i5-12600. It covers factors like wattage, efficiency ratings, compatibility, and more. One of my friends recommended it to me when I was building my PC a few months ago.
@alexisdevaul and @LarsofArcana! The Corsair SF750 does sound great, but I'm still unsure if 750W would be sufficient for my build. I have a high-end GPU in mind, which might need more power. Also, what's the deal with efficiency ratings like 80 PLUS Platinum? Does it make much of a difference?
Efficiency is definitely important when choosing a PSU. A higher efficiency rating means less energy wasted as heat and more power used by your components. In the long run, this can save you money on electricity bills. As for wattage, it depends on your specific build. Make sure to calculate your total power consumption and choose a PSU with some extra headroom.
@cambrose89, I agree with @CrissyEU that efficiency is crucial. The 80 PLUS Platinum rating means the PSU delivers at least 89% efficiency under typical loads. This can help reduce heat output and noise levels in your system. As for wattage, it's always better to err on the side of caution and choose a PSU with more capacity than you think you'll need. Just make sure it has all the necessary connectors for your motherboard and GPU.
Great advice! So, considering that I have a high-end GPU in mind, what would be the minimum wattage recommendation for my build? And should I prioritize efficiency over other factors?
With a high-end GPU like an RTX 4090, you'll need a solid PSU. A minimum of 850W would be advisable to accommodate that GPU and your other components. Efficiency is still important, but with the higher upfront cost, some users might choose to prioritize wattage for compatibility purposes.
@graemej1 has a point. It's essential to ensure that your PSU can handle your build's power requirements. However, it's also crucial not to compromise on efficiency as it can save you money in the long run. Check out the TechReviewer article Choosing the Best Power Supply for Intel's Core i5-12600 CPU for more insights and recommendations.
Based on your suggestions, I think I'll go with an 850W or even higher wattage PSU. Efficiency is important too, so I'll aim for at least a Gold or Platinum rating. Appreciate all the advice!
Glad to help, @cambrose89! Building a PC can be challenging, but it's rewarding when you put everything together and see it work. Best of luck with your build!
