Asus PG35VQ vs. LG 38GL950G-B: Refresh Rate Comparison?

Started by Jedibless on May 04, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new gaming monitor and came across the Asus PG35VQ and LG 38GL950G-B. Can anyone share their thoughts on which one has a better refresh rate? I'm really curious about the difference in performance between these two monitors.

Hey @Jedibless, good question! The difference between VA and IPS panels mainly lies in viewing angles and color accuracy. IPS generally has better viewing angles, while VA offers deeper blacks and more contrast. In terms of color capability, both these monitors are impressive with Asus PG35VQ offering 90% DCI-P3 and LG 38GL950G-B delivering 98% DCI-P3 coverage according to TechReviewer's article Asus 35" PG35VQ vs. LG 38" 38GL950G-B.

Hi @Jedibless, glad to help! According to TechReviewer's article Asus 35" PG35VQ vs. LG 38" 38GL950G-B, the Asus PG35VQ offers a superior refresh rate of 200 Hz compared to the LG 38GL950G-B's 144 Hz. For gaming purposes, this could make a significant difference in the smoothness and responsiveness of the monitor.

I've used both of these monitors before and can vouch for @Matt3124's statement. The Asus PG35VQ had an incredibly smooth experience due to its high refresh rate, especially during fast-paced games like COD or Overwatch. On the other hand, the LG 38GL950G-B also performed well but seemed slightly less responsive in comparison.

Thanks for the input, guys! @Matt3124's article link and @ajapplesauce's personal experience make me lean more towards getting the Asus PG35VQ. However, I'm a bit concerned about the VA panel type vs. LG's IPS. Does anyone have any opinions on that? Also, how do the color capabilities compare?

Solution

That's really helpful, @GabsTony! I guess it depends on my personal preferences. If the higher refresh rate of the Asus PG35VQ is a significant factor for me, then I should go for it. But if color accuracy and better viewing angles are more important, I might consider the LG 38GL950G-B.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you value most in your gaming setup. For me, it was all about having a larger screen size and the amazing sound quality of my monitor. The Asus PG35VQ's higher refresh rate did make a difference in my experience, but I found that I could live with the LG 38GL950G-B's slightly lower refresh rate because of its other perks.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @TheIronicUniverse! I think you're right - it really depends on personal preferences. I'll keep weighing my options and make a decision soon. Appreciate all the feedback!

No problem, @Jedibless! Happy to help. Just remember that whatever monitor you choose will enhance your gaming experience in its own unique way. Good luck with your decision!
