AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i9-10900K Overclocking?

I've been looking at the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Intel Core i9-10900K for my next build. Has anyone worked with these before? I'm curious about their overclocking capabilities.

I think the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i9-10900K provides a good overview of their differences in terms of core types, core counts, frequencies, cache capacities, along with their overclocking, PCIe, and DDR support.

I haven't personally used them, but according to a TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i9-10900K, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D has better overclocking potential compared to the Intel Core i9-10900K.

That's interesting. I'd be using this for gaming and some video editing, so I'm guessing more cores would help with that?

Yeah, but also the single-core max boost frequency is an important factor too, right? The 7950X3D has a higher max boost frequency than the 10900K.

True. I've used both for video editing and found that having more cores does make a difference. However, you should also consider DDR support and PCIe when choosing between them.

Solution

Thanks for sharing that link, @ajapplesauce. So what do you think? Should I go for the 7950X3D or the 10900K?

It really depends on your specific needs and budget. If you're looking for better overclocking potential and higher base frequency, the 7950X3D might be a good choice. But if you prefer DDR4 and lower cost, the 10900K could be more suitable.

I also need to consider the cooling solutions for both CPUs. The 7950X3D's higher power consumption means it requires better cooling, which can impact the overall cost of my build.

That's true, @FrankAlton. So I'll have to weigh the pros and cons of each CPU and make a decision based on my priorities. Thanks for your input everyone!

Good luck with your decision, @GoOnKumomi! It's always fun to pick out components for a new build.
