I'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding which CPU to get for my new gaming PC build. I've been looking at the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Intel Core i7-14700KF, but I can't seem to decide which one would be better for gaming. Any suggestions?

Hey @calafair, I think it really depends on what kind of games you're playing. Generally speaking, having more cores can benefit some games, especially ones with heavy physics or large open-world environments like Cyberpunk 2077. In those cases, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D's extra cores might give you an edge.
That's a good point @MileHiMorrow. I mostly play fast-paced multiplayer shooters and some RPGs, so I guess having more cores would be beneficial in that case?
Yeah, it definitely can be. But remember, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D also has a higher single-core max boost frequency than the Core i7-14700KF which is great for games like those you mentioned.
@PorkChopHill That's true! I actually read an article on TechReviewer (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i7-14700KF) comparing these two CPUs. It said that for most games, having more than 8 cores doesn't provide significant advantages. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D does have a higher core count and base frequency though.
Interesting, so it sounds like the Ryzen 9 7950X3D might be the better choice for my needs?
It's really up to personal preference and your specific use case. If you don't need the extra cores, the Core i7-14700KF could be a great option as well. Both CPUs are powerful and would provide excellent gaming performance.
Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll do some more research and maybe check out some benchmarks to make my final decision.
