I've been considering upgrading my CPU for video editing, and I'm torn between the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Intel Core i7-12700. Can anyone share their experience or recommendations?

Both CPUs are great choices for video editing, but you might want to check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i7-12700 that compares the two in detail. In my experience, I found that the Ryzen 9 7950X3D's higher core count and better multi-core performance made a noticeable difference when working with large video files.

Solution

Thanks for sharing your experience, @Genericseat. The article you mentioned seems really helpful. Based on what you've said, do you think I would regret going with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D over the Core i7-12700?

I recently upgraded to the Ryzen 9 7900X and have been quite happy with its performance in video editing tasks. The higher core count made a significant difference in handling multiple tracks of audio without any hiccups.

@devonpilney, I can't say for sure, but from my experience, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D would probably give you better overall performance due to its higher core count. However, it ultimately depends on your specific needs and budget.

I was using the Intel Core i7-12700 for video editing, and while it worked fine for basic tasks, I noticed a bottleneck when working with 4K videos. After upgrading to the Ryzen 9 7900X, I found the performance improved drastically, especially in handling multi-threaded tasks.

That's interesting, @ZekromsMalice. It seems like having more cores can really make a difference in video editing. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D sounds promising but is quite expensive. I might have to think about it for a while before making a decision.
