AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i7-11700K - Cooler Needed?

Started by camelware on May 19, 2024

I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Intel Core i7-11700K for my next build, but I'm concerned about cooling requirements. Can anyone offer some advice on what to expect with these CPUs in terms of cooler needs?

I just read an article on TechReviewer that compares these two CPUs. It provides some insights into their cooling requirements. You can check it out here: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs. Intel Core i7-11700K. In summary, both CPUs need high-end coolers, but the 7950X3D seems to have a slightly higher thermal threshold, so you might want to consider that when making your decision.

Both the 7950X3D and the 11700K have high boost frequencies, which means they both require a high-end cooler to maintain those frequencies consistently.

Solution

@Elamere25 Thanks for sharing that link! It's really helpful. I'm wondering though, are there any specific cooler models you'd recommend for each CPU?

For the 7950X3D, you might want to look at air coolers like the Noctua NH-U9S or liquid coolers like the Corsair H100i V2. Both have good performance and should handle the 7950X3D's thermal demands.

For the i7-11700K, I've been using an NZXT Kraken X63 liquid cooler, and it does a fantastic job at keeping my CPU cool. It's a bit pricier, but it's worth it for maintaining peak performance.

@LordNemra @FreeCitoyen Thanks for the recommendations! The Corsair H100i V2 seems to be more budget-friendly, so I might go with that for the 7950X3D. For the i7-11700K, I'm leaning towards the NZXT Kraken X63 since it's been working well for @FreeCitoyen.

@camelware That sounds like a solid plan! Just make sure you have enough space for the liquid coolers, as they can be a bit bulky compared to air coolers.

@camelware@LordNemra Yeah, and don't forget to regularly maintain your cooler's fans and coolant to ensure optimal performance. Happy building!
