AMD Ryzen 9 7950X vs. 3900X for Gaming?

Started by basynightshade on June 21, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new CPU, and I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and the 3900X. Any thoughts on which one would be better for gaming?

Both are great CPUs, but the 7950X has more cores and higher frequencies, which makes it better suited for more demanding applications and professional tools.

Thanks for sharing the link, @SupraRZ1999. Based on what I've read so far, it seems like the 7950X has an edge in terms of raw power. But how about for gaming specifically?

For gaming, both CPUs should offer excellent performance, but as @SlayerSystems mentioned, the additional cores and higher frequencies of the 7950X could give it a slight advantage in more demanding games.

That makes sense. I'll probably lean towards the 7950X then. But are there any other factors I should consider?

One thing to keep in mind is that the 3900X supports DDR4, while the 7950X supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5200 MHz. This could make a difference depending on your RAM preferences and future upgrades.

Interesting point about the RAM compatibility. I'll definitely need to think about that as well. Thanks for the input everyone!

No problem, @basynightshade. Remember, both CPUs are great choices, so you can't go wrong either way! Good luck with your decision.

Yeah, and don't forget to take into account your budget and other system components when making your choice. Happy building!

Absolutely, @OlympianDWill. Cheers to a successful build, @basynightshade!
