AMD Ryzen 9 7900 vs. Intel Core i7-14700KF - Best for Gaming?

Started by iswansky on June 18, 2024

I'm in the market for a new gaming PC, and I can't decide between an AMD Ryzen 9 7900 or an Intel Core i7-14700KF. Can you guys give me some advice on which one would be better suited for gaming?

Thanks for sharing AMD Ryzen 9 7900 vs. Intel Core i7-14700KF, @DomanoSV. I've read through it, and based on my research, the AMD Ryzen 9 7900 has a higher single-core max boost frequency at 5.4 GHz compared to the Intel Core i7-14700KF's 5.60 GHz. However, the 7900 only has 12 cores while the 14700KF comes with 20 cores in total. Both have impressive base frequencies and support for DDR5 memory.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900 vs. Intel Core i7-14700KF provides a detailed comparison of the two CPUs in terms of core types, core counts, frequencies, and cache capacities, along with their overclocking, PCIe, and DDR support.

Solution

@Danny0402 So, does that mean the Ryzen 9 7900 would be better for games that rely heavily on single-core performance or those with less complex physics? And what about the Intel Core i7-14700KF's additional cores?

The Ryzen 9 7900 could indeed perform well in games that require high single-core performance. However, it might not handle multiple tasks as efficiently as the Core i7-14700KF, which has more cores and a higher thread count. The Intel CPU can better manage complex physics calculations and run several applications simultaneously without slowing down.

@doocycle That makes sense. So, if I'm someone who's into competitive gaming and usually plays FPS or Battle Royale games, would the Ryzen 9 7900 be more suitable? Or should I consider the Core i7-14700KF for better multitasking capabilities?

@DomanoSV It really depends on your specific needs. If you primarily play competitive games that are heavy on single-core performance, like FPS or Battle Royale titles, then the Ryzen 9 7900 could be a good choice. However, if you also want to run multiple applications at once without experiencing any performance issues, the Intel Core i7-14700KF might be more suitable.

@Danny0402 Thanks for your input, everyone. I guess it's time for me to do some benchmarks and read more user reviews on both CPUs. I'll also keep an eye out for any discounts or deals on gaming PCs with either CPU option.

Sounds like a plan, @iswansky. Good luck in finding the right CPU for your new gaming PC! And remember, it's always worth considering future upgrades and expansions when making such decisions.

@doocycle Absolutely, @doocycle. The more versatile your build is now, the easier it will be to upgrade later. Thanks all for the advice!

You're welcome, @DomanoSV. Happy gaming!
