AMD Ryzen 9 7900 vs. Intel Core i5-13600 in Multitasking

Started by nicecreamguy on June 13, 2024

I recently bought a new computer and I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 9 7900 and Intel Core i5-13600 for multitasking purposes. Can anyone give me some advice on which one would be better?

Well, have you checked out the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 7900 vs. Intel Core i5-13600? It provides an in-depth comparison of these two processors.

Solution

Thanks @Moose1956. I'm really interested in multitasking so any input on that front would be great. What about memory handling and performance for the Ryzen 9 7900 and Core i5-13600?

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900 has more threads (24) than the Intel Core i5-13600 (10), which could make a big difference in multitasking. The extra cores can handle more tasks simultaneously, so you'll likely see better performance overall.

I've used both these processors and I can tell you that the Ryzen 9 7900 is superior for multitasking. I was running multiple virtual machines on my computer with no issues. The Core i5-13600 started to struggle after a few tasks were open at once.

Another factor to consider might be your budget. The Ryzen 9 7900 is more expensive than the Core i5-13600, so if you're on a tight budget, that might influence your decision.

@Moose1956, what about the L3 cache sizes? I've read that having a larger cache can improve multitasking performance as well.

The Ryzen 9 7900 has a larger L3 cache (64 MB) compared to the Core i5-13600's 24 MB. This could potentially provide better performance in multitasking scenarios, as it allows for faster data access and processing.

It's also worth mentioning that the Ryzen 9 7900 supports DDR5 memory, while the Core i5-13600 supports DDR4. If you plan to upgrade your RAM in the future, this could be an important consideration.

@Moose1956, @Akalegend Thanks for all the information. It seems like the Ryzen 9 7900 has a lot going for it when it comes to multitasking. However, I'm still wondering about the difference in price. Does anyone have any suggestions on finding deals or discounts?

There are many online stores and marketplaces where you can compare prices and look for discounts. Sometimes, you can find bundle deals that include the processor with other components at a discounted rate. Also, keep an eye out for seasonal sales or special offers.

@Lizzard81 Great advice! I'll definitely start checking those places. Thanks everyone for your input. I feel much more informed about my decision now.
