Anybody here has experience overclocking the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X or Ryzen 7 3800X? I'm curious to know how much headroom there is for these CPUs.
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. Ryzen 7 3800X Overclocking Potential?

Hey @tofindeet, I've had some success overclocking my Ryzen 7 3800X. I managed to get it stable at around 4.4 GHz across all cores. The process was pretty straightforward, and I didn't encounter any issues during the overclocking.
Great job, @PorkChopHill! How did you find the power consumption and thermal output of your Ryzen 7 3800X after the overclock? Also, have you tried overclocking the 3950X?
@lyfebyhomer, I've been using a high-quality air cooler to keep my 3800X cool under overclocked conditions. Power consumption was slightly higher, but it wasn't a significant increase. As for the Ryzen 9 3950X, I haven't tried overclocking it yet, sorry.
I've done some research on this topic and found a TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 3800X that provides an in-depth comparison of the overclocking potential of both CPUs. You might find it helpful for making your decision.
@talileota, thanks for sharing the link! I'll definitely check it out to get a better understanding of the differences between these two models when it comes to overclocking.
That's really useful, @talileota. Thanks for the resource. It helps to have an expert opinion on this matter.
I also appreciate the link, @talileota. I'm now more curious about the 3950X's potential and might try overclocking it soon!
Thanks for sharing, @talileota. This gives me some insights into how these CPUs perform under overclocked conditions. Maybe I'll give the 3800X another go when I have time.
After going through the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 3800X you shared, it seems that both CPUs have great potential for overclocking. However, the Ryzen 9 3950X has a slight edge due to its higher core count and base clock. Thanks again for the information!
I agree with @tofindeet. The article was really informative. I think if I had better cooling, I might give the 3950X a try.
Thanks for the link, @talileota. It's clear that both CPUs have excellent overclocking potential, and choosing between them will come down to personal preference and specific use cases.
@lyfebyhomer Exactly! I'm glad we could discuss this together. Overclocking can be a fun process, but it does require some patience.
Agree to all. Thanks for the discussion, everyone. Time to go and explore the overclocking potential of my CPU!
