I've been reading up on the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, and I was wondering which one is better for overclocking. Has anyone tried overclocking either of these CPUs? Any advice would be appreciated!
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Overclocking?

Hi @Gregorcarr, I've personally had great success with overclocking my 3950X! The higher single-core max boost frequency and the greater number of cores make it a powerhouse for performance overall. I even found this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X that discusses how the 3950X outperforms the 1800X in terms of overclocking capabilities. You might want to check it out!
That's interesting! Thanks @hired-geek. So, if I were to go for the 3950X, would I be sacrificing anything else that could be important for me?
The 3950X does have more cores and a higher boost frequency, which can be great for multitasking and certain types of workloads. However, it's also more expensive than the 1800X. If you don't need those extra cores or the higher boost frequency, then the 1800X might still be a good option for you.
Yeah, @Beto1989 is right about the price difference. The 3950X does cost more but offers better overclocking capabilities and performance overall. However, the 1800X can also provide great performance if you're on a budget or don't require as much power. It really depends on your specific needs and what you're planning to use it for.
Thanks for the input everyone! I'll definitely check out that TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X and think about my options some more. Appreciate the help!
No problem, @Gregorcarr. Just remember that both CPUs are capable of delivering excellent performance if used correctly. Good luck with your decision!
@lyfebyhomer I'll let you know what I decide once I've done some more research.
Sounds good, @Gregorcarr. Best of luck with your decision and feel free to ask any more questions if you have them!
