I'm currently trying to choose between the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X and 3900 for my new PC build. Does anyone have any insights or experience with these CPUs? Any help would be appreciated!
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X vs. 3900 Performance

Both the Ryzen 9 3900X and 3900 are fantastic choices, but I'd lean more towards the 3900X if you're looking for better overall performance. The main differences between them are the base frequency and max boost frequency.
Yeah, I agree with @Joaolicia. I've been using the Ryzen 9 3900X for a while now, and it's really impressive. I'd recommend checking out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3900X vs. AMD Ryzen 9 3900 for a more in-depth comparison of these two CPUs.
Thanks for the suggestion, @MatticusNWN. The article you linked seems very helpful. So, is there any significant difference between the 3900X and 3900 when it comes to gaming?
In terms of gaming, both CPUs will perform quite well. However, the Ryzen 9 3900X does have a higher single-core boost frequency (4.6 GHz) compared to the 3900's 4.3 GHz. This can make a noticeable difference in games that are more CPU-intensive.
I've used both CPUs for gaming and didn't notice much of a difference, but maybe that's because my GPU is powerful enough to handle most games without bottlenecking the CPU. I think it ultimately comes down to your specific needs and budget.
That makes sense. What about general app usage? Any notable differences between the two?
For general apps, both CPUs are great choices as well. The main difference you'll notice is that the 3900X has a higher base frequency (3.8 GHz) compared to the 3900's 3.1 GHz. This means it will perform better in tasks that require sustained CPU usage.
@MatticusNWN is right. The base frequency difference between the two CPUs can make a difference when running resource-intensive applications, especially those that don't scale well with multiple cores. If you're planning to run such applications, the 3900X might be a better choice.
Alright, I see. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll take a look at that TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 9 3900X vs. AMD Ryzen 9 3900 again and maybe do some more research on my own as well. I appreciate all your help!
No problem, @futonsnstuff. Good luck with your decision! And remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer here - it really depends on what you plan to use the PC for and how much money you're willing to spend.
Exactly. Just make sure you get a high-quality CPU cooler if you decide to go with the 3900X. It can get quite hot during intense workloads!
