AMD Ryzen 7 7700X vs. 3800X - Faster CPU?

Started by tripabase on June 14, 2024

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU and I've been comparing the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and AMD Ryzen 7 3800X. Can anyone provide some insights on which one is faster?

@tripabase, I've been using the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X for some time now, and I must say it's fantastic! The TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 7700X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 3800X discusses how the 7700X outperforms the 3800X due to its higher base frequency of 4.5 GHz compared to the 3800X's 3.9 GHz, and its single-core max boost frequency of 5.4 GHz compared to the 3800X's 4.5 GHz. If you're looking for better performance overall, I'd recommend going with the Ryzen 7 7700X.

Both of those CPUs are great, but it depends on what you need them for. The 7700X has a higher base frequency and max boost frequency than the 3800X.

Solution

That's really helpful, @CowboysCrewLove. My main concern is gaming performance, so I guess the higher base and boost frequencies of the 7700X would be beneficial for that.

@tripabase, you're right! The higher base and boost frequencies on the Ryzen 7 7700X should definitely help with gaming performance. Additionally, it has better overclocking support compared to the 3800X. So if gaming is your primary concern, the 7700X might be the way to go.

@tripabase, I have noticed that my games run much smoother on the 7700X than they did with the 3800X. The higher boost frequency makes a big difference in fast-paced games and provides better overall performance.

But what about price? Are the 7700X and 3800X priced similarly or is one of them more expensive?

The 7700X tends to be a bit more expensive than the 3800X, but prices can fluctuate depending on the retailer and current stock levels. It's always worth checking multiple stores for the best deal.

@CowboysCrewLove, thanks for your input! I'll look into the pricing of both CPUs and make my decision based on that as well.

Just remember, @tripabase, whatever CPU you choose, it's important to have a good cooling solution to maintain those high boost frequencies.

@obvalternate, definitely! I'll keep that in mind when selecting my new CPU and cooler combo. Thanks everyone for your advice!

You're welcome, @tripabase. Good luck with your upgrade!

Good luck, @tripabase! Let us know how it goes!
