AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. Intel Core i9-12900KF for Multitasking?

Started by RoyalCityRansom on May 29, 2024

I've been trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and the Intel Core i9-12900KF for my new desktop build. I need a CPU that can handle multitasking well, as I'll be running multiple apps and programs at the same time. Can anyone give me some advice on which one would be better for this purpose?

To add to what @TheRepostBot said, I recently read an article on TechReviewer that compared these two processors in detail. According to their findings, both CPUs offer excellent performance overall, but the Core i9-12900KF has a slight advantage when it comes to multitasking due to its higher core count and better efficiency with resource-intensive tasks. You can check out the article AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. Intel Core i9-12900KF for more information on how they performed in various use cases.

Both the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and Intel Core i9-12900KF are excellent choices for multitasking, but they have different strengths. The Ryzen 7 7700 has 8 cores and a base frequency of 3.8 GHz, which is great for general use and gaming. On the other hand, the Core i9-12900KF has 16 cores (8 Performance + 8 Efficiency) with a P-core base frequency of 3.20 GHz. The extra cores on the i9-12900KF might give you an edge when running multiple resource-intensive applications simultaneously.

@two-feathers, Thanks for sharing that link! I'll definitely read through the article. However, does anyone have personal experience or recommendations when it comes to using either of these CPUs for multitasking? Any anecdotes or tips would be helpful!

As someone who has used both the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and Intel Core i9-12900KF, I can say that they are both capable processors. However, my personal preference goes to the i9-12900KF because of its higher core count, which helps when multitasking with resource-intensive applications like video editing or rendering. Additionally, I've found that the i9-12900KF runs slightly cooler and quieter than the Ryzen 7 7700 under heavy load.

It's also worth considering your budget and what you're willing to spend on a CPU. The Ryzen 7 7700 is generally more affordable than the Core i9-12900KF, so if cost is a factor for you, it might be a good option to consider.

@TheRepostBot, That's true. Cost is definitely a consideration for me. I'll take that into account as well. Thanks everyone for your input! Based on this thread, it seems like the Core i9-12900KF might be the better choice for multitasking due to its higher core count and efficiency. However, since cost is a factor, I may have to consider the Ryzen 7 7700 as well.

If you're on a budget, another option to consider would be the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. It has 12 cores and a base frequency of 3.8 GHz, which should provide excellent multitasking capabilities at a lower price point than both the Ryzen 7 7700 and Core i9-12900KF.

@coldblow85, I hadn't even considered the Ryzen 9 3900X! I'll definitely look into that as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's important to remember that personal preferences and use cases can vary, so it might be worth trying both CPUs if possible. You could also consider building a future-proof system by opting for components with good upgrade paths in case you decide to add more powerful GPUs or other hardware down the line.

@TheRepostBot, Good point! I'll definitely keep that in mind as I make my decision. Thanks again everyone for your help and advice!
