AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. 3700X for Gaming?

Started by slimequarters on June 22, 2024

I've been looking at the new AMD Ryzen CPUs, and I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the 7700 or the 3700X for gaming. Has anyone tried either of these processors?

Yeah, @slimequarters, both CPUs offer excellent overclocking support according to the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X mentioned earlier by @OlliverClosoff.

I recently got an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and have been playing games on it for a while now. It's working pretty well, no issues so far. There's a TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X that gives a detailed comparison between the two CPUs. You might find it helpful!

Thanks, @OlliverClosoff. I'll definitely check out that article. The 7700 seems to have a higher base frequency and single-core max boost frequency, which could be a nice boost for gaming, right?

I've been using the 3700X for a couple of months now, and it's been great for my gaming needs. I haven't experienced any bottlenecks or issues playing games at high settings.

Wow, that's interesting! @slimequarters, you should also consider the DDR support and PCIe version for both CPUs when making your decision. The 7700 supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5200 MHz, while the 3700X supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz. Additionally, the 7700 has PCIe 5.0 support, which is a huge upgrade over the 3700X's PCIe 4.0.

That's good to know, @MatryxMercy. I'm not sure if I need to worry about overclocking for gaming, but it's definitely something to consider.

Solution

I'm a bit confused about which CPU is better for gaming. Can someone help me out?

Hey @lexcimus. So, based on what I've seen so far, both the 7700 and 3700X seem to be excellent choices for gaming. It really comes down to personal preference and your specific needs. The 7700 has a higher base frequency and single-core max boost frequency, but it also costs more.

Thanks for the advice, @slimequarters. I'll have to think about it some more before making my decision.

Good luck with your decision, @lexcimus! Remember that you can always sell or trade your current setup if needed.
