Wow, that's interesting! I didn't know about these differences. The article AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs. Intel Core i7-9700K @daastheboss mentioned also talks about PCIe 4.0 support, which is a nice bonus. How does the overclocking support compare between the two?

Hi @cReeK2k14! I've been using the Ryzen 7 5800X for a few months now and it's been fantastic. It's super fast and hasn't let me down yet. You can check out more details in this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs. Intel Core i7-9700K.

That's good to hear, @daastheboss! I also have experience with both the Ryzen 7 5800X and Intel Core i7-9700K. In my opinion, the Ryzen 7 5800X has better single-core max boost frequency and larger L3 cache capacity which makes it great for gaming.

Solution

Both processors have excellent overclocking support according to my experience. However, the Ryzen 7 5800X has DDR4 memory compatibility up to 3200 MHz while the Intel Core i7-9700K has limited DDR4 memory compatibility with a max stock speed of 2666 MHz. This could be an important factor depending on your RAM.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The Ryzen 7 5800X definitely seems to have better overall performance for gaming and general apps. It's worth considering if you're looking for top-end performance.

I'm leaning towards the Ryzen 7 5800X based on this discussion. However, I want to make sure it won't bottleneck my GPU. Can anyone provide more insight on that?

That's a valid concern, @samallenrows. Both processors should not bottleneck your GPU as they both have good single-core boost frequencies and core counts. However, the Ryzen 7 5800X does have an edge with its higher max boost frequency and PCIe 4.0 support.

Exactly! I think you'll be more than happy with the Ryzen 7 5800X for gaming. Just make sure to use a high-performance CPU cooler to maintain those high frequencies.

Agreed! Good luck with your decision, @cReeK2k14. Let us know if you have any further questions or need more advice.

Thanks everyone for the input! I appreciate it. I'll keep that in mind and make my final choice soon.
