Well, from the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs. Intel Core i5-11600K I mentioned earlier, it seems that AMD Ryzen 7 5800X has an edge due to its 8 cores, 32 MB L3 cache, and PCIe 4.0 support which can provide excellent performance overall. However, both CPUs have good overclocking capabilities and DDR4 support with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz.

Both CPUs are good choices for gaming, but if I were you, I'd go with the Ryzen 7 5800X. It has more cores and a higher max boost frequency which can make a huge difference in gaming performance.

I've used both CPUs in my gaming setup. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X performs better overall, especially for games that are more CPU-intensive. Also, the PCIe 4.0 support on the 5800X is a big plus.

Check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5800X vs. Intel Core i5-11600K for an in-depth comparison of the two CPUs. It might help you make an informed decision!

Thanks for the link, @no-love-lost. I've read through it and it seems like the Ryzen 7 5800X is indeed a better choice for gaming. The higher core count and faster memory support really appeal to me.

Just remember that a good GPU is still crucial for gaming performance. Even though the CPU is important, don't overlook the need for a powerful graphics card.

That's true, @Knowledge1337. I've had experience with both CPUs in my custom build. The 5800X does offer better performance overall, but it really depends on the games you plan to play.

Solution

Thank you everyone for your input! I think I'll go with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X based on your experiences and the TechReviewer article. But do tell me, what's the best CPU cooler to pair with this CPU?

For the Ryzen 7 5800X, I recommend the Noctua NH-D15 or a similar high-performance air cooler. It should handle the thermal demands of the CPU without any issues.

I agree with @apesfromspace13. The Noctua NH-D15 is an excellent choice for cooling the 5800X. Make sure to apply some quality thermal paste too!

Don't forget about noise levels when choosing a cooler. The Noctua NH-D15 is known for its quiet operation, which can be crucial during long gaming sessions.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into the Noctua NH-D15 and some quality thermal paste. Hopefully, this upgrade will take my gaming experience to the next level!

Good luck with your build, @fullofstars. Remember that even with a powerful CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X, having a good GPU is still key for top-notch gaming performance!
