AMD Ryzen 7 5800X & 1800X for Multitasking?

Started by ilovemahdonuts on May 20, 2024

I've been thinking about upgrading my PC and have narrowed it down to either the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. Any advice on which one would be better for multitasking? I'm currently running multiple programs simultaneously and could use some suggestions.

Both the Ryzen 7 5800X and the Ryzen 7 1800X are good choices for multitasking due to their similar core counts of 8 and thread count of 16. However, the 5800X has a higher base frequency (3.8 GHz) and max boost frequency (4.7 GHz), larger L3 cache (32 MB), and supports PCIe 4.0, which could provide better performance for tasks demanding faster data transfer speeds. Thanks for the info! The base frequency and max boost frequency are pretty significant differences. Does anyone have personal experience with either of these CPUs?

Hey, I've been using the Ryzen 7 1800X for a few months now, and it works great for multitasking. I haven't noticed any significant performance issues running multiple programs simultaneously.

That's good to hear! Just keep in mind that if you're looking for faster data transfer speeds, the 5800X might be a better choice due to its PCIe 4.0 support. But if you're on a budget or have limited desk space, the 1800X could work just as well.

Yeah, I've been reading up on PCIe and it seems like that could make a big difference for me, especially with my current setup. Any recommendations on which CPU to go for?

If you're primarily using your computer for multitasking and don't need the extra speed of the 5800X, then the 1800X should be fine. However, if you want to future-proof your setup and are willing to spend a bit more, the 5800X might be worth it.

Good points! I think I'll probably go for the Ryzen 7 5800X since it seems like it would give me more room for growth with my projects. Thanks everyone for the input!

No problem! Just make sure you have a good cooling solution, as the 5800X can get quite warm under heavy load. And if you have any questions later on, don't hesitate to ask us here in the forum.

Will do! Thanks again, everyone!
