AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs. Intel Core i9-11900K Multi-Tasking Performance?

Started by bmatis42 on May 23, 2024

I've been looking into new CPUs for my gaming setup and came across the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i9-11900K. Can anyone give me some insights on which one would be better for multi-tasking performance? I'm usually running multiple applications at once, including games, video editing software, and web browsing.

Hey @bmatis42, when it comes to future upgrades, it really depends on what you plan to upgrade first. If you're planning on adding more RAM or an SSD in the near future, both the Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i9-11900K should work well. However, if you're considering a GPU upgrade, the i9-11900K's higher base frequency could potentially result in better performance. Ultimately, it comes down to your specific needs and budget. I would recommend reading this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs. Intel Core i9-11900K for more information on future upgrades with these processors.

Hey @bmatis42, the Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i9-11900K both have similar core types and counts with 8 cores each. However, the i9-11900K has a higher base frequency of 3.5 GHz compared to the Ryzen 7 5700G's 3.8 GHz. The single-core boost frequencies are also different, with the 11900K having a max turbo frequency of 5.3 GHz versus the 4.6 GHz on the 5700G. Both processors have an L3 cache size of 16 MB and support DDR4 with a maximum stock speed of 3200 MHz. When it comes to PCIe support, the 11900K has PCIe 4.0 while the Ryzen 7 5700G only supports PCIe 3.0. I would recommend reading this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs. Intel Core i9-11900K for a more detailed comparison. In terms of multi-tasking performance, the higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency of the i9-11900K might give it an edge over the Ryzen 7 5700G.

Thanks for the info, @Seedsofbroccoli. So it seems like the i9-11900K has a slight advantage when it comes to multi-tasking performance due to its higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency. However, I'm also considering future upgrades like adding more RAM or an SSD. Would you have any insights on that as well?

Hey @bmatis42, both the Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i9-11900K have good overclocking support and are suitable for gaming, general apps, and professional tools. The main difference is that the i9-11900K has a slightly higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency, which could give it a performance edge in some cases. However, both processors should handle multi-tasking well. In terms of future upgrades, you might want to consider your budget and what other components you plan on upgrading. The Ryzen 7 5700G has excellent overclocking support, so if you're looking to push your CPU for better performance, it might be a good choice. On the other hand, the i9-11900K's higher base frequency could mean slightly better overall performance in some applications, especially those that are heavily multi-threaded. It really depends on your specific needs and budget.

Thanks for the input, @NanoShadow4. I'll definitely keep all of this in mind when making my decision. By the way, has anyone used either of these processors for video editing? I'm thinking about moving into more advanced video editing software soon.

Hey @bmatis42, both the Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i9-11900K should be able to handle most video editing tasks with ease. However, if you plan on using more advanced video editing software in the future, the i9-11900K's higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency could give it a slight edge over the Ryzen 7 5700G. That being said, both processors should be able to handle video editing well, so your choice ultimately comes down to personal preference and budget.

Great, thanks for the advice @poselocke. It sounds like either CPU would work for me, but I might lean towards the i9-11900K due to its higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency. However, I'm still unsure about future upgrades. Any suggestions on which processor might be better for that?

Solution

Thanks for the help everyone. Based on what you've said, I think I'll go with the Intel Core i9-11900K due to its higher base frequency and single-core boost frequency. However, I'll definitely keep my options open for future upgrades. Again, thanks for all the advice!

You're welcome @bmatis42. Good luck with your new CPU! If you have any more questions in the future, feel free to ask. Happy gaming!
