I've been considering getting a new CPU for gaming and I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and Intel Core i5-11400. Has anyone here had experience with either of these? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hey @eyelandreader, both are good options! I've been using the Ryzen 7 5700G for a while now, and it works great for gaming. You can check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs. Intel Core i5-11400 that goes into more detail about their performance.
I've used the Intel Core i5-11400 for gaming too, and I must say, it's pretty decent as well. It doesn't lag in most games at all. The only downside is that it heats up a bit faster than the Ryzen 7 5700G.
I haven't tried either CPU personally, but I've done some research on them. According to TechReviewer AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs. Intel Core i5-11400, the Ryzen 7 5700G has a higher single-core max boost frequency which could be beneficial for gaming. On the other hand, the Core i5-11400 has more cores and PCIe support, which can also be helpful in certain situations.
That's really interesting, @wheatthin92. I was unaware of some of these details. So, do you think having a higher single-core max boost frequency on the Ryzen 7 5700G would make it better for gaming? Or does the extra core count and PCIe support on the Core i5-11400 make up for that?
In my experience, the higher single-core max boost frequency on the Ryzen 7 5700G doesn't make a huge difference in gaming performance. However, having more cores can be beneficial when running multiple applications or doing other tasks while gaming.
Yeah, I agree with @stevebconnect. The extra core count on the Core i5-11400 definitely helps when multitasking or using resource-intensive software.
Well, it seems like both CPUs have their pros and cons. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and what you need for your specific use case. I'd recommend doing some more research and reading up on user reviews to make the best decision.
Thanks for the input everyone! I'll definitely do some more digging and weigh my options before making a decision.
