I've been looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G and the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G for gaming, but I'm not sure which one is better. Can anyone give me some advice?

Yeah, and there's a good article with an overview of both CPUs at AMD Ryzen 7 4700G vs. AMD Ryzen 5 3400G. You might find it helpful. Also, the 4700G supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz, while the 3400G only supports up to 2933 MHz. That could make a difference in gaming performance.

The 4700G has a higher core count, base frequency, and single-core max boost frequency compared to the 3400G, which should provide excellent overall performance for gaming.

Solution

Thanks for the info! I never thought about the RAM speeds being that important for gaming. What do you think about the PCIe support for both CPUs? Are they going to limit my future upgrades?

The 4700G and 3400G both have PCIe 3.0 support, which means they will limit the potential of the latest SSDs and graphics cards. If you plan on upgrading your GPU or storage in the future, you might want to consider a CPU with PCIe 4.0 support.

That's good to know. I'm also worried about how these CPUs will handle multitasking since I usually have multiple apps open while gaming.

Both the 4700G and 3400G should handle multitasking well, especially with a high-performance CPU cooler. The single-core max boost frequencies are quite high, so you shouldn't experience any significant bottlenecks when running multiple applications simultaneously.

I've been using the 4700G for a while now, and I must say it's performed very well in gaming sessions. The higher core count really makes a difference, especially when playing games that are more demanding.

That's great to hear! I'm leaning towards getting the 4700G now. But one last question - how do these CPUs compare in terms of overclocking potential?

Both the 4700G and 3400G have good overclocking support, but the 4700G's higher core count might allow for better overall performance when overclocked.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I think I'll go ahead and get the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G. It seems like it will provide a better gaming experience overall.

Good choice! You won't be disappointed with the 4700G. If you have any more questions or need help in the future, don't hesitate to ask us here on TechReviewer.
