AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Intel Core i7-11700F Gaming?

Started by thetallman18 on May 23, 2024

I'm looking to get a new CPU for my gaming setup and I'm having trouble deciding between the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and Intel Core i7-11700F. Does anyone have any experience with these CPUs or recommendations on which one to go for?

I've been using the Ryzen 7 3700X in my PC for a while now, and it's been great! The higher single-core max boost frequency really makes a difference in gaming. Plus, it has better L3 cache capacity compared to the i7-11700F. I also read this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Intel Core i7-11700F that talks about how the Ryzen 7 3700X performs better overall in games.

Solution

That's good to know! So would you say the Ryzen 7 3700X is definitely a better choice for gaming?

It really depends on what type of games you play. If you're mostly playing fast-paced, competitive titles, then the higher refresh rate of the 3700X might be more important. However, if color accuracy is a priority for you (like in games like Cyberpunk 2077), then the i7-11700F might be a better choice.

I've been using the Ryzen 7 3700X and it's great for gaming! The higher single-core boost frequency really makes a difference, especially during fast-paced matches. Plus, the PCIe 4.0 support is excellent when using fast SSDs and graphics cards. I can't comment on the i7-11700F since I haven't used it, but based on what @plisskenjones said, it sounds like a good option too.

Thanks for the input! So both CPUs seem to have their pros and cons. What about when it comes to general app performance?

Both the Ryzen 7 3700X and i7-11700F should offer good general app performance, as long as you have a high-performance CPU cooler. The most important factor for general apps is usually the single-core max boost frequency.

Yeah, I've found that the 3700X works well with general apps like streaming shows, using office apps, and browsing the internet. It's not that you need a top-end CPU for these tasks, but having a higher single-core boost frequency can speed up page load times.

Great, thanks! So it seems like if I value gaming performance above all else, the Ryzen 7 3700X might be the way to go. But if I prioritize color accuracy in games, then the i7-11700F could be a better choice. Any other recommendations?

Just remember that both CPUs have their strengths and weaknesses, so it ultimately comes down to your personal preferences and what type of games you play most often.

One last thing I'd like to mention is that the Ryzen 7 3700X has support for overclocking, which can be an advantage if you want to squeeze out even more performance. The i7-11700F doesn't have this feature, so keep that in mind.

Thanks for all the advice! I'll definitely take all of this into consideration when making my decision. I appreciate everyone's input!
