Anybody have experience with the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or the AMD Ryzen 7 1700? I'm in a dilemma between these two and need some advice.
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs 1700 Performance

I have been using the Ryzen 7 3700X for a while now, and it has been fantastic. The higher core count and better frequencies make it great for gaming and general use. I'd definitely recommend it if you can afford it. You can find more detailed information in this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 1700.
Thanks for the input, @iliketools. However, I'm on a tight budget, so the Ryzen 7 1700 might be more suitable for me. What are your thoughts on that one?
The Ryzen 7 1700 is a solid choice if you're on a budget, but it's an older model compared to the 3700X. The main differences are in the core count, frequencies, and support for modern technologies like PCIe 4.0 and DDR4 with higher stock speeds. If you don't need those features and can find the 1700 at a decent price, it might be worth considering.
@Livinglifelite. That's helpful. I'm mainly going to use the CPU for gaming and some video editing. How do these two compare in terms of gaming performance?
@mattchis2305 The Ryzen 7 3700X has a higher core count and better single-core boost frequency which makes it superior for gaming compared to the 1700. However, if you're on a tight budget, the 1700 can still offer decent performance, especially if you pair it with a good GPU.
What about video editing? Is there a significant difference between the two in that regard?
@Deranzeef Video editing often benefits from higher core counts and better frequencies, just like gaming. The Ryzen 7 3700X will generally provide better performance for video editing tasks compared to the 1700. However, if you're on a budget, the 1700 can still do the job, but it might take longer to render videos or process large files.
That's useful information. I think I'm leaning towards the Ryzen 7 3700X now. But what about power consumption and heat? Is there a significant difference between these two models?
@mattchis2305 Both CPUs are relatively power-efficient, but the 3700X may consume slightly more power than the 1700 due to its higher frequencies and boost clock. As for heat, you should expect both CPUs to generate some heat under heavy load, but the 3700X might produce a bit more heat compared to the 1700.
What about future upgrades? Will the Ryzen 7 1700 limit me in any way if I decide to upgrade my CPU later on?
@Deranzeef The Ryzen 7 1700 is an older model, and upgrading to a newer CPU might be more challenging or expensive due to potential compatibility issues. If you plan on keeping your system for a long time and possibly upgrading the CPU in the future, the 3700X might be a better investment.
Great points, @Livinglifelite. Thanks for the advice! I think I'll go with the Ryzen 7 3700X. It seems to offer better performance and is more future-proof.
That's a wise decision, @mattchis2305. The 3700X will serve you well for gaming and video editing. Good luck with your new CPU!
