Hey folks, I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU for gaming and can't decide between the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and the older AMD Ryzen 7 1700. Has anyone here compared these two or tried them out in their own systems? Any advice would be helpful!

You guys should check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. AMD Ryzen 7 1700 I found. It goes into detail about how the 3700X has better performance overall due to its higher core count, base frequency, single-core max boost frequency, and support for PCIe 4.0. These features contribute to improved performance in games that utilize multiple cores and faster data transfer rates, reducing the potential for CPU bottlenecks.

I've been using a Ryzen 7 3700X for a while now, and it's been amazing! The extra cores and higher clock speeds definitely make a noticeable difference in gaming. Plus, the support for PCIe 4.0 is a huge plus when it comes to fast SSDs and GPUs.

I've had a Ryzen 7 1700 for ages, and while it still gets the job done, I can see why people would want an upgrade. The 3700X has better single-core boost frequency, which helps with games that are more CPU-intensive. But if you're on a budget, the 1700 is still a great option.

Solution

That's really helpful! So it seems like the 3700X is better suited for gaming overall, especially with its higher single-core boost frequency. But would the extra cores on the 3700X make much of a difference in most games?

It really depends on the game. Some games are more CPU-intensive and will benefit from having more cores, while others rely more heavily on the GPU. However, in general, having more cores can help improve performance in games that utilize them.

True! I remember playing a few strategy games where I could definitely notice the difference with more cores. But for most other games, my GPU was still the limiting factor.

Makes sense. Well, I'll probably go ahead and upgrade to the 3700X then. Thanks for all the advice!

No problem! You won't be disappointed. Enjoy your new CPU!

Same here! Good luck with the upgrade!
