I'm looking to buy a new gaming PC and I'm stuck between the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and Ryzen 5 3500. Can anyone give me some advice on which one would be better for gaming?

Solution

Thanks @kkirzinger, I'm checking it out now. The article is really informative!

I've used both of these CPUs in my builds and they're great for gaming. The Ryzen 7 2700 has more cores which can help with multi-tasking and running more intensive games, but the Ryzen 5 3500 also performs well.

The Ryzen 7 2700 does have an advantage in core count, so it should handle most games without issue. However, the Ryzen 5 3500 has a higher single-core boost frequency which can be beneficial for some games, especially those that are more CPU-intensive.

That's interesting @Infamouskiwi59. I'm also worried about future-proofing my PC since I plan to keep it for at least 5 years. Which one would you recommend for longevity?

The Ryzen 7 2700 might be a better choice for longevity, as its extra cores can help with running multiple applications and future software updates that may require more resources.

True @WarFoxLT, but the Ryzen 5 3500's higher single-core boost frequency could also come in handy if I end up playing more CPU-intensive games in the future.

@WarFoxLT @Infamouskiwi59 Thanks for your insights. I think I'll go with the Ryzen 7 2700 since it seems to have a slight edge for my usage. But the Ryzen 5 3500 looks like a great option too.

That's a good choice @yungmeme2002. Both processors are capable and you won't be disappointed with either one. Just make sure to pair them with a good GPU for optimal gaming performance. Good luck!
