AMD Ryzen 5 7600 vs. 5800 for Gaming?

Started by FireFoxPro on June 10, 2024

I'm in the market for a new gaming PC and I've been looking into either an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 or a 5800. Can anyone share their thoughts on which one is better for gaming? The performance difference might be marginal, but any insight would help.

Both CPUs are great choices for gaming! Check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 7600 vs. AMD Ryzen 7 5800 to see a detailed comparison of the two. The Ryzen 5 7600 has 6 cores and a base frequency of 3.8 GHz, while the 5800 comes with 8 cores and a slightly lower base frequency at 3.4 GHz. If you're playing games that don't heavily utilize multiple cores, the 7600 should serve you well.

Thanks for the response @audiodelic536. I was actually wondering about the single-core boost frequencies as well. The 7600 has a max boost frequency of 5.1 GHz while the 5800 is at 4.6 GHz. How significant of an impact does this have on gaming performance?

Hey @FireFoxPro, good question! Higher single-core boost frequencies can make a noticeable difference in gaming, especially for titles that are more CPU-intensive or those with complex physics calculations. However, most modern games are designed to take advantage of multi-threaded processing, which means they'll use multiple cores instead of just one.

That's right, @kremisius. And it's worth mentioning that both CPUs have the same L3 cache size of 32 MB and support for DDR4 memory. So, if you're looking to future-proof your build, you might want to consider overclocking potential as well - both CPUs are capable of being overclocked.

Good point @audiodelic536. I'm more concerned about gaming performance right now though. Let's say I mostly play fast-paced shooters and some RPGs that require a bit more CPU power. Which one would you recommend?

For the games you mentioned, the Ryzen 5 7600 should be sufficient for smooth gameplay. However, if you're considering upgrading in the future or want to ensure you have enough power for more demanding games, going with the Ryzen 5800 might be a better long-term choice.

Thanks everyone for your input! Based on what you've said, I think I'll go ahead and order the Ryzen 5800. It seems like it would offer a bit more future-proofing and better performance in some CPU-intensive games.

Great choice, @FireFoxPro! Just remember to keep an eye on GPU performance too, as that will have a much bigger impact on your gaming experience than the CPU. And of course, don't forget to check out TechReviewer's article AMD Ryzen 5 7600 vs. AMD Ryzen 7 5800 for more in-depth analysis and comparisons. Happy gaming!
