I'm currently trying to choose between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and the Ryzen 3 3100 for my new gaming PC build. I've been reading a lot about them, but it's hard to make a decision. Has anyone here used either of these CPUs in their builds? Any advice would be great!
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. Ryzen 3 3100 for Gaming?

Hey @liltwin78, I've been using the Ryzen 5 5600G for a while now, and I must say it's fantastic! The higher core count and single-core boost frequency make a huge difference in gaming. Plus, the support for DDR4 with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz provides good overall performance. However, its PCIe support is limited to version 3.0, which may impact the potential of the latest SSDs and graphics cards.
Thanks for sharing your experience, @Defication. I've also been looking into this comparison and came across a really insightful TechReviewer article about it. Check it out if you're interested: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. AMD Ryzen 3 3100.
That's great to hear, @Defication. Thanks for the input! @MileHiMorrow, thanks for sharing that link. I'll definitely check it out.
I've used both the Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 3 3100 in my gaming setup. The main difference I noticed was the single-core boost frequency. The 5600G's 4.4 GHz max boost is amazing for fast-paced games like Overwatch and Call of Duty. However, the Ryzen 3 3100's PCIe 4.0 support might be better if you plan on using high-speed devices.
That's really helpful, @GeminiAction12. So it sounds like the 5600G is a great choice for those who prioritize higher single-core frequencies in their gaming setup. But for someone looking to maximize compatibility with high-speed devices, the Ryzen 3 3100 might be the better option.
I've been using the Ryzen 5 5600G for about a month now, and I'm really impressed with its performance. The ultra-wide screen is amazing for immersive gameplay, but I also noticed that my games run smoother compared to when I was using the Ryzen 3 3100.
Thanks for sharing your experience, @LilCreezy. It sounds like you're having a great time with the 5600G! I'm leaning towards getting it based on everyone's input. The TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. AMD Ryzen 3 3100 also reinforced that choice.
@liltwin78, just make sure whatever CPU you get has good support for high-speed devices, especially if you plan to upgrade your SSD or GPU in the future. PCIe 4.0 support is worth considering if you're building a future-proof gaming PC.
True enough, @Defication. It's always good to keep future upgrades in mind when making these decisions. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and advice! I think I've got enough information to make my decision now.
Thank you all so much for your insights! I appreciate the time and effort you've put into helping me decide. Based on everything I've learned here, it seems like the Ryzen 5 5600G is the way to go for my gaming PC build. Again, thanks for the help!
No problem, @liltwin78. Good luck with your new gaming PC! If you have any questions or need more advice in the future, feel free to ask.
