AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs Intel Core i7-11700 for Gaming?

Started by apple314159 on May 31, 2024

I've been researching CPUs for a new gaming PC build and I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and the Intel Core i7-11700. Could anyone here recommend which one would be better for gaming?

@apple314159 For gaming, both of these CPUs should give you decent performance, but it really depends on your specific needs. However, I found a TechReviewer article that compares them in depth: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. Intel Core i7-11700. It might help you make an informed decision.

Thanks for sharing the link @Chiefshow, I'll definitely check it out. But if we're talking about gaming performance, what do you think is more important, core count or single-core boost frequency?

I'd say that single-core boost frequency is more important for gaming since most games are still not optimized to fully utilize multiple cores. However, having more cores can be beneficial in some cases, like when running multiple applications simultaneously or doing some light video editing.

That's true, @ranmah76. Also, don't forget about the GPU because it plays a significant role in gaming performance. But if we're focusing on the CPU, I would go with the one that offers better single-core boost frequency and enough cores for my needs.

@subinboston Thanks for your input! Based on what you said, I think I might go for the i7-11700 because of its higher single-core boost frequency and support for PCIe 4.0. But I'll still keep an eye out for a good GPU deal.

Sounds like a plan! Just remember to also consider factors like your budget, cooler size, and overall system performance when making your final decision.

I'm going to check out the TechReviewer article @Chiefshow mentioned again. I'll keep all these points in mind while reading it. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

No problem, @ZekromsMalice. Good luck with your build! And if you have any more questions or need some more advice, don't hesitate to ask.

@ranmah76 I'll definitely reach out again if I have more questions. Have a great day!

You too, @apple314159. Take care and happy building!

I'll let you know how my build goes once it's completed.

Good luck with your build, @ZekromsMalice! And remember to monitor your temperatures when overclocking, especially on the 5600G. It can get pretty hot!

@subinboston That's a good point, I'll make sure to keep an eye on my temps. Thanks for the heads up!
