AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. Intel Core i7-11700?

Started by PijnAppel on May 22, 2024

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and can't decide between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and the Intel Core i7-11700. Has anyone here used either of these CPUs? Any suggestions would be great!

I've used both the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and Intel Core i7-11700, and I'd say go for the one that fits your needs best. The TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 5600G vs. Intel Core i7-11700 provides a detailed comparison of these two CPUs. It covers their core types, core counts, frequencies, cache capacities, overclocking support, PCIe, DDR support, and more.

Both are solid options! The Ryzen 5 5600G has 6 cores and a base frequency of 3.9 GHz, while the Core i7-11700 has 8 cores and a base frequency of 2.50 GHz. I personally use the Ryzen 5 5600G and am happy with its performance.

Solution

Thanks for sharing your experience, @KsGaming2. I read the TechReviewer article you mentioned and found it very informative. The Ryzen 5 5600G seems to offer good performance overall, especially in gaming and general apps. However, I'm worried about its PCIe 3.0 support as I plan on getting a high-end GPU.

That's true about the PCIe support, but if you're mostly into gaming and general apps, the Ryzen 5 5600G should serve you well. Just make sure to get a high-quality CPU cooler since it doesn't have performance core boost technology like the Core i7-11700.

Good point, @Psycomedian. I'll keep that in mind about the cooler. Now, regarding your experience with the Ryzen 5 5600G, how does it perform compared to the Core i7-11700? Are there any specific scenarios where one outperforms the other?

Based on my usage, the Ryzen 5 5600G performs well for general applications and gaming. The higher single-core boost frequency makes a significant difference in gaming performance. On the other hand, the Core i7-11700 offers excellent overall performance due to its higher core count.

@mpalmer302 is right. It ultimately depends on your specific needs. If you're into gaming and general apps, the Ryzen 5 5600G should be more than enough for you. But if you need a CPU for heavy multitasking or content creation, the Core i7-11700 might be better suited.

That makes sense. I'll probably lean towards the Ryzen 5 5600G since it seems to be a great fit for my needs. Thanks for all your input, everyone!

You're welcome, @PijnAppel. Just remember to get a good CPU cooler and enjoy your new CPU!
