AMD Ryzen 5 5600 vs. Intel Core i3-12100 - Better Gaming CPU?

Started by ghostbear14 on May 14, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new CPU for my gaming setup and am having trouble deciding between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and Intel Core i3-12100. Has anyone here had experience with either of these CPUs? Any suggestions?

Thanks for sharing your experiences, @lizz0188 and @IAmStardustOK. It seems like the majority of you are leaning towards the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 for gaming purposes. I did come across this TechReviewer article that compares these two CPUs: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 vs. Intel Core i3-12100. It might be helpful for anyone else who's trying to make a decision.

Hi @ghostbear14, I have used both the Ryzen 5 5600 and Core i3-12100 in my gaming setup, and in my opinion, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 provides better performance. It has a higher single-core max boost frequency, more cores, and supports DDR4 memory with a maximum stock speed of 3200 MHz. The Ryzen 5 5600 also has better PCIe support (PCIe 4.0) compared to the Core i3-12100's PCIe 5.0.

Thanks for your input, @BillFromAccounting7. Do you have any personal experience or anecdotes that could help me make my decision?

Hey @ghostbear14, I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600 and it has been an excellent choice for gaming. The higher clock speeds really make a difference, especially in fast-paced games like Overwatch. Plus, the extra cores are great for multitasking.

I've been using the Core i3-12100 for quite some time now, and while it's good for general use, I did notice some performance issues when playing more demanding games. The Ryzen 5 5600 seems like a better choice for gamers in my opinion.

Solution

That's really helpful, @BillFromAccounting7. I'll definitely check out the article you linked. So, based on your experiences and the article, would you all recommend going with the Ryzen 5 5600 or sticking with the Core i3-12100?

It ultimately depends on your specific needs and budget. If you're looking for better performance in gaming and are willing to spend a bit more, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 is probably the better choice. However, if you're on a tighter budget and only plan to use your CPU for general tasks, the Core i3-12100 should suffice.

Yeah, @KsGaming2 makes a good point. It's important to consider your personal preferences and requirements when making this decision. If gaming performance is a priority, then the Ryzen 5 5600 might be worth the investment.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I'll definitely think about what I want to use my CPU for most before making a final decision. It's great to know that there are other gamers out there who have had positive experiences with the Ryzen 5 5600.
