I'm looking to get a new CPU for gaming and was wondering if the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or the Intel Core i5-11400F would be better. I've heard good things about both of them but wanted to see what you experienced gamers out there thought.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 vs. Intel Core i5-11400F for Gaming?
Started by MattHrkac on July 10, 2024
Hey @MattHrkac, both CPUs are great choices for gaming, but they have some differences. The Ryzen 5 3600 has a slightly higher single-core max boost frequency than the i5-11400F, which can be beneficial for gaming. Also, the 3600 has better overclocking support and a larger L3 cache capacity.
Yeah, and another thing to consider is the PCIe support. Both CPUs have PCIe 4.0, which is great for fast SSDs and GPUs, but you might want to check if your motherboard can handle it. I had some issues with my i5-11400F when upgrading my PC because of the PCIe compatibility.
Oh, that's interesting @alexalextan55. So, would you recommend the Ryzen 5 3600 over the i5-11400F then?
I've been using the i5-11400F for a while now and it works great for me. The performance is good, and I haven't had any issues with PCIe compatibility. Also, I read this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 3600 vs. Intel Core i5-11400F that goes into more detail about these CPUs. It might be helpful to check out.
Thanks for the input, @rhapsowacho. That's good to know about the i5-11400F. The article you mentioned sounds interesting. Could you please share the link again?
Sure, here's the link to the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 3600 vs. Intel Core i5-11400F that I was talking about.
Thanks, @rhapsowacho. I'll definitely check it out. Based on your experiences and what @subinboston said, I think I might go with the Ryzen 5 3600. It seems like it would offer better performance for gaming. But I'll still read that article to get a clearer picture.
That's cool, @MattHrkac. Just make sure to get a high-performance cooler as well, since both of these CPUs can get quite hot during gameplay.
Good advice, @alexalextan55. And remember, the most important thing is to find the CPU that works best for your specific needs and budget. Good luck with your decision, @MattHrkac!
